CJFS provides assistance to individuals and families experiencing financial hardship. Our experienced counselors provide a financial assessment, assistance with budgeting, and access to community resources for items such as food, rent , utilities and medical expenses for eligible clients.

  • Loans & Scholarships-Limited no interest loans and scholarships are available to the Birmingham Jewish Community for college education, unexpected needs, trips to Israel, and Jewish residential camps. The financial assessments are completed by a CJFS staff member and the award amount is determined by the appropriate Birmingham Jewish Foundation Committee. Successful applicants are generally of low income and/or have experienced a major change such as a job loss or illness.
  • Disaster Relief -CJFS has been involved in Disaster Relief efforts as part of the United Way Unmet Needs Committee providing case management services to survivors of the 1998 tornadoes in Pratt City and Pleasant Grove and to evacuees of Hurricane Katrina. Now, as part of the United Way Long Term Recovery Committee, CJFS is working with a myriad of community agencies from across Alabama to meet the needs of the April, 2011 tornado survivors. It is our privilege to partner with the community to assist those in need.
