A support group for individuals with BRCA1 And BRCA2 gene mutations and their families, facilitated in partnership with Brookwood Medical Center, UAB, and CJFS. Meetings are held one the evening every other month at the Brookwood Wellness Center at Gold’s Gym in Vestavia, 1090 Montgomery Highway. Contact Gail Schuster for more information. The next meeting is March 5, 2013, at 7:00pm and features guest speaker Dr. Andres Forero, who will discuss recent research on BRCA patients and a particular kind of chemotherapy.
Lynn Rathmell has been offering Career Consultation at Collat Jewish Family Services since 1995. In a private, confidential environment, clients can participate in the any of the following career services:
- Assessing employment history and career needs.
- Exploring career options.
- Critiquing resumes.
- Developing a plan to achieve employment placement.
- Networking strategies.
- Interviewing skills coaching.
- Motivating clients and monitoring agreed upon goals.
- Referral to local agencies, groups or professionals who can also assist in the career and employment field.
When resources have allowed and our client base was interested, CJFS has offered monthly group meetings to address the needs of current clients and others in the employment market. This group may be offered in the future. Please contact Lynn at 879-3438,x7105 for an appointment.

Understand Your Prescription Plan! Medicare Stand Alone Prescription Plans change every year and so do your needs. If you need to know if your current prescription plan is the best option for you, or if you are picking a plan for the first time, CJFS is here to help. Open Enrollment for 2014 will probably begin in October of 2013; the enrollment window closes in early December. Please check back for updates in the fall. During this time, you can choose a new plan or change your current plan for next year. Sex Ed for 4th and 5th Graders
Periodically CJFS will offer a sex education course led by one of our social workers. In 2013, Katie Smith will teach a course at the LJCC for area 4th and 5th graders. For regsitration information, click here or contact Katie.
